I'm restoring a 1941 Chevy pickup flatbed and need some ideas on a new bench seat. I'm keeping with the old look throughout but can't use the seat frame due to rust. Any idea's on a cheap replacement bench seat? Thank you for the input.
If you are using the under seat fuel tank I don't really think you are going to find much that fits. There are usually some stock seat frames floating around. I don't have any right at the moment. If I come across any I will let you know
I'll bet a seat from an AD truck will work or if you have a seat frame maybe just the springs from an AD truck will fit it pretty well.
Thanks for the quick responses. I am going to replace the fuel tank and add a fuel cell to the back and use the space under the seat for speakers. I might have to modify a bench seat to fit the space. I have the original bench seat but the frame and springs are rusted pretty bad.
Dont overlook the bigger trucks as the cabs are the same width, also school bus seats look the part with the rail going around the upper portion of the seat and are easily modified to fit.
AD trucks have a wider cab (3 person seat) while the Art Decos have a smaller cab (with a 2 person seat). To the OP, try and find a seat from a old Toyota or Nissan (Datsun) mini truck from the late 70s, early 80s or else you will have to modify a seat frame in order to fit the 41.
suburban third seat fits pretty good, will need to fab up some kind of brackets to hold it down.In my 46 I used a third seat out of a 79 suburban.Reworked the frame and used some hydraulic struts to be able to lift up the seat for storage underneath.I moved my gas tank to the back of the frame under the bed.
i built a '38 last year and i fitted the back seat from a ram charger, it worked fine but the customer found an original and we used that. on the 38 i used an 82 ford pickup tank and mounted it inside the frame under the cab and ran the filler through the floor and out the side of the cab like the original, it fit fine but you need to run the exhaust down the driver side only. i also built a drawer under the driver seat that slid out after you opened the door.
Thank you guys for the ideas. Now I have some work to do. I will post any progress and a finished product at a later date.
Years ago I rode many a mile in my Buddy's 41 pickup with the stock seat and then with the redone stock seat and done right the stock seat is really comfortable. Otherwise I think I'd look at mini truck bench seats with thin backs out of standard cab trucks.
I used a 3rd seat from a Chrysler mini van in my '38. Mounted it on top of the empty tank tray. The back folds forward to help with storage.
