So a buddy of mine just picked this Divco up. It's a bit confusing to say the least. Manufactured by Divco but with a very small Chevy nose. I personally have never seen a Div with this nose. Maybe they are more common then I think they are??? So the story goes it was Astoria, OR first ambulance. Somehow it made it inland to The Dalles, OR and that is where it spent the last 20 years. And last weekend it made it to Olympia, WA. Plans are a fairly easy build but it might be a bit off topic for this site. We'll see what happens. I will post pictures soon.
My opinion: some body customized a Divco, Fact: We had one similar with a 53 International Front end grafted to it, in SW Washington. Hated: The day is was crushed for bullets for Vietnam...
He is attempting to contact Astoria historical society to see if he can dig up some old photo's. If it is a customized Div then it was done to perfection. Hood and grill do not match anything. Couple of suggestions right now: Do a 12" chop....... or do it flat red with an old snap on or mac tool truck logo
what engine does it have? the one in our town had an Oldsmobile w/ hydromatic.. Highland Dairy for fast milk. we all loved it..
Yea, I would say '41 or '46 front clip for sure. I love the style of it for sure. My guess would be Chevy 1/2 drive train by the 6 lug. Rob
I have a Divco book that has info on this subject. It seems that they did this conversion with Chev/GMC, Mack, and Yellow Truck and Coach ch***is. The author didn't know how many were produced, but 40 and 41 appear to be the only years of production. The Chev/GMC version was on a 1/2 ton ch***is supplied by General Motors
Don't feel bad, if I hadn't had a "thing" for Divcos once upon a time, I would have had the same thought.
Wow, nice find on that literature. Thanks for posting. I guess this doesn't belong here in the COE section anymore. Chevy 1/2 ton ch***is is correct. 6 cyl with 4 speed and 41' Chevy instrument cluster.
