Silly question time, does any one know if a 1941 ford 6 has the same trans bolt pattern as a flathead V8 ? Thanks in advance.
Thank you Sdroadster. I was asking for a friend, we didn't get a lot of those in 6 cylinder form down under.
The '41-'48 flathead 6 transmission bolt pattern looks similar, but is not the same as the V8, and are not interchangeable. The 6 and V8 gears can be swapped, according to what I've read. The '49-'51 6 & V8 bell housings also look alike, but are not the same and not interchangeable.
Definitely different. I once bought a 3 speed from a 6 cylinder '40s truck in order to get the open drive parts from it, and the case wouldn't interchange with a V8.
The G series six cylinder engines had six cylinder only transmission cases. The H series engines used the same transmissions as the V8s. Get the bell housing from a 48-51 six cylinder pickup engine and you can bolt a V8 transmission to a G series engine.
