They are business coupes, not club coupes (or sedan coupes). Business coupes are much the prettier of the two.

  5. which would then use 4dr front doors correct? MUCH easier + cheaper to find,;D

Club coupes have longer doors. They look funny chopped.

  9. yah I figured that when i looked at the pics , these body's both have to southern or western bodies ,they are VERY clean and i have a working relationship w the yard owner's,I probably can get em both on a trade on a beater truck I have. I imagine they each (Bus/club) use different trunk lids tho, hunh?

  10. I think the 4 doors dont fit business coupes. If you happen to find the long doors, mostly out of a convertible . grab them. their hard to find.

The top picture ( blue 41) is a business coupe.

Dont attemt to chop it. Its like breaking an egg shell and glueing it back together...

  11. like these two -? Mine :D 46 ply cpe 4"/3" chop and my old 46 chevy PU 4" chop ,but seriously, I am actually thinking -GASSER!,no chop

  12. as both bodies are utterly stripped of everything including the chassis + doors, deck lids + dashes and every bit of tiny screwed on*****, It would cost a small fortune to actually build a rod or custom out of them also given the fact that they have no****les and NO VIN #'s, it makes it double hard to street em- at least here in MN.The real shame here is that at least one of the bodies is rock solid EVERYWHERE,be hell of a donor body to replace a rotten one though.(of which I am NOW the proud owner,I traded my utterly shot motor home for it tonight)

My car is a 47 business coupe, but Im pretty sure its the same from the cowl back. The front doors from a 4 door are the same doors as a business coupe. I know because my drivers door is a door I got off of a 4 door, as the one that came on my car had some serious rust issues.

As far as the best one to chop, its not always a question of one body style chopping nicer than the other. In fact, the long door has a nasty hump in the back that begs to get chopped. The issue is that these cars are really easy to screw up when chopping them, and 90% of the ones out there are chopped really bad, and 90% of them out there are club coupes (long door), so naturaly you see a lot of long door coupes with bad chops. Either body style can be chopped well and look nice. I personaly prefer the way the business coupe chops over the club coupe, but I may be a bit biased.

As far as the trunk, I was recently told that the business coupe and convertable share a different trunk lid than the long door coupe, but I dont believe it to be so. The business coupe actually does have a different frame, and the difference in the length is made up in the wheelbase ( you will find that out when trying to use the 3 repro brackets that hold in the gas tank, on the business coupe, the spring perch is the rear bracket) and not the deck lid length. Trunk lids for these are pricey, there is a guy in New York that specializes in 41-48 for parts, and he gets $700 for a nice deck lid (in comparrision to the primo quality drivers door he sold me for $225).

HAHAH well said, however, there is a guy in Maryland that proved to me that he can pull off such a re-assembly

  15. I believe the cpe I traded for tonight is a club (Long door) cpe and it has a somewhat ratty lid on it, hopefully I can dress it up some and mud (lead for weight?? ;D) it up to be presentable, LOL,Of course, this is all mute unless I can swing a trade on the stripped bodies, I am broke -otherwise i'll just dump the suicide cpe  here

  16. Root, I am afraid you have that backwards my friend. Long doors flow much better when chopped. Nearly all of the famous 41-48 chopped customs are Club Coupes by the way. Remember long is a good thing. Business coupes are too stubby when cut. And yes, I know there are a few exceptions where they work, that Colorado car comes to mind in that 80's Best of Hot rod. They do look good as street rods with non flowing chops as well. Lets see who posts theres LOL. So the saying should read: "Long doors, flowing, yep. Short doors, stubby, nope. D

There was also an opera coupe in '41 with fold down jump seats in the back. It uses the business coupe body. My dad had one when I was a little kid, and it's still around the KC area as far as I know.

  18. Typing while Chad S. threw up his ride. That chop is another example of one that works. Curious though, car looks to be on a forward rake. Are you aiming for a custom or hot rod look??

  19. unchopped , I'd say the bus cpe flows better though-just to add fuel to the fire LOL

  20. I must be delusional tonight LOL. The car sits level, although, could it go up a bit in the front?

  21. Mike, I would agree with that. Funnny thing about my 41, when I show people pictures of it when it was stock, they think it is a different car. As a matter of fact, when I first bought it, a friend of mine from work said " Why would you want that, thats a grandma car!"

Definately going custom (that pics a few months old, its the only side view I have, wanted to show the roof line). Its sitting at around ride height (yea yea, air ride!), and it may be hard to see because the asphalt its on is not as flat as it looks, but the rear is lower than the front at that height, and I definately am going for the tail draging look.

    Heres a newer pic

I still think that its not all about long door or short door, its the quality of the chop, and what you like. I cant take credit for the work on mine, but the guy who did it is a genious, every car he builds in his shop has great proportions. Most chopped 41-48 fords (both coupe styles) have the proportions off in one way or another. There are great examples of both cars chopped, and a whole lot more examples of awfully chopped cars in both body styles. You HAVE to take the body proportions into account, and treat the roof to fit the car. Most long doors wind up with "deformed" shaped quarter windows, many wind up with rear windows layed back too steep. A lot of times with either body style, the windows wind up at different heights (i.e. windshield taller than the door windows), the list goes on and on. But I definately agree, if you dont plan on investing in whatever it takes to get the chop done right on one of these cars, get a business coupe and leave the top alone.

man, had the camera out today too, i haven't had a chance to look at the pics, but i shoulda snapped one... damn.. the suicide coupe or the 2 door sedan next to the tempest would make pretty good donors. me... i still stayed 10 ft away from the suicide coupe today yankin them gauges,....no need to worry about me robbin parts from it...dont need any ghosts followin me home. haha i "was" sure (edit) that clean body hiding at the secret location was the same body style as this one, it has the same roof line at the rear window.

yea, now that i think about it, they did look more streamlined, i was lookin at the bodyline trunk roof area... either way for a 64 year old car, them floors were very clean... never realized that was a 41 that was parked in front of the international,, the lack of front sheet metal throws me off on that, after a while i couldnt tell one from the next, guess i need to brush up on my formula for id'n cars

nope, closer to home here in jamaica...haha

  30. long doors, short doors they both chop fine. just different cuts to make them flow!
I took a short door business coupe and put the long sedan doors on by moving the B-pillar back 8 1/2 inches. then chopped the A- pillars 6 inches. instead of splitting the roof I slid the whole top forward 4 1/2 inches to line up the A-pillars. took the front section of right stock short door and put it on the back of the new long door to get the shape of the three window coupe (did the same to the oppisite doors) only had 5 1/2 inches of the stock quarter windows to fill. picking up a 41 coupe on saturday to add the front clip and get this old car back on the road again
