I'm not new to customs and streetrods, but I know what I like. The guys that have the $100,000 cars built for them just don't seem to real car guys to me. When the rat rods started coming to the shows I was in Heaven. These were cars that I messed with when I was 16. I like a car that was built by the owner no matter what his level of skill is. As long as it's safe, the level of bodywork does not matter.
I have a 34 Ply. 4 door, not your typical rod, but It's the one I wanted. I've had it about 30 years now and still enjoy it.
I'm working on a 41 Buick now and am making it a full custom. I'm doing all the work myself. I've chopped and channeled it and am making my own custom grill from Buick bumper gaurds. I did'nt have enough so I made a mold and made the rest from fibergl***. I'm not going to have anything chromed, I'm just going to paint my trim a different color.
I'm doing it to show with a little effort and a lot of work you can build a car that you will be proud of for very little money. It will mean more to you in the end and will be a car you not afraid to drive anywhere. If all you do is shine it and worry someone might touce it, what the hell good is is it!
I'm 59 and live in Vermont so I always have a long winter to work in my garage. I still do'nt seem to get much done.
I've never been into high buck cars, but if you have the money, more power to you.
I'm going to try to download some pictures if I can. Just remember I am doing my own work.
