So I was talking with a guy at a car show who has 2 41 Zephyrs one he made into a custom. I was talking to him about Buying the backing plates off of him he wants 100 a wheel? its the backing plate with all of the hardware, I don't know if that with drum or spindle? he said (the shoes Look like they are brand new) but brand new to some might be junk to another!! so what I'm asking is do you think that 100 a wheel is an ok deal? and is there any thing that I should look for to tell if there junk or not? any input would be great!
Look at them if the shoes are new & the wheel cylinder's look new thats a decent price not a steal unless he is throwing in the drums & they are in great shape or turnable. You can by brand new re pop's complete for around $400 pr fronts & $575 rear set up for E brake plus new drums are $100 ea.
I have a complete set off a '46, in fact I have the drums, axles, springs, 5 original wheels, and lots of engine stuff- but the distance might be a problem, none of it is light
I still have to go and look at it, but I'm just hoping that they are in good shape! He was pretty firm on it like I said. I don't know if he is going to through in the drums? Any thing else I should buy when I'm there he put a mustang two frontend under it! I'm wanting to use Buick drums on the Lincoln backing plate! But I know you have to mill them and do some machine work to them, I'm just hoping that they are not in real bad shape!
