  1. I thought the same thing! Best time I ever had with that Crazy red head was the last one. If I was gonna have a heart attack, that one was it!

You could apply zinc before painting. My brother did this to his '55 frame, one of the main reasons being touch ups would be easier. My dad had his '54 frame powdercoated.

Thanks Wouter. I have had contact with a few companies and am expecting an answer with regards to the possibilities in the next few days.

Got busy on the underneath of the car. There still was some metal to cut out where the tunnel will be. Did some final welding and ground it all smooth. For some reason my photography skills aren't the best today, they're all slightly angled. But you get the idea.

  5. Probably better to have so-so pictures of great metal work than vice-versa:rolleyes:

    Looking great!

Spent the rest of the afternoon welding. Both foot wells are done and I gone through most of the tunnel area again, just to strengthen it as a whole even futher.

Thanks 1959apache! I should get these parts in a week or two. I could have fabricated them (and the outer rockers) but this should save me time. As soon as I get them I'll post the results.

    Eric,

    Hello.

We are back after a weeks vacation to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Great place for anyone to go to, put it on your "bucket list" for sure!

Wow you were busy I see...very nice work indeed. I used the Plymouth Doctor for some parts as well. The parts are costly but "time is money", and the quality is good also. For other sheet metal Bitchin Products has universal floorboards which can be adapted to custom applications. I'm glad to see the progress, and I hope that I can catch up soon.

My fabricator is supposed to have made progress on my project as well. I should have new photos within a weeks time.

Thank VonSkip! I've seen all of the vid's of your Plym on You Tube, that car sounded good! Hope to be cruizing the Dutch roads next year, can't wait!

Thanks Glenn! As soon as I get the parts from the Plymouth Doctor, I'll post them. And yes, time is money......I figured this would be the best way to go, considering I don't want to stall the project in any way. Seeing I have the chassis in my garage, I can work on it and see my family at the same time.......it's been said before, a happy wife is a happy life.:)

    Eric,

What parts did you need from the Plymouth Doctor, your car looked complete?

I'm leaning towards the Hemi...I have a lead on one (392) for about 3G and my fabricator is searching for one also. My fabricator told me I would need to dump about 8G into the 455, and it is still not a Hemi so, you know the deal... Hemi payback is major so why throw good money after bad. I will weigh my options, and Hemi Haynes builds a mean engine!

    Glenn,

I've ordered the inner/outer rocker panels and the cowl repair panels. It was basically these area that were not 100%. These parts from the Plymouth Doctor should arrive at the end of next week.

Eddie at HemiHaines may also be able to help you with an engine, he usually has quite a few leads. He got mine fairly cheap: a 392 A1 block out of a Chrysler New Yorker, which had never been tampered with. Maybe worth a try!

If I was you, I'd definitely stick to the Hemi plan, you can't go wrong!

    Eric,
Hello. Those are the same parts that I ordered for my build, you will be happy with the parts from Plymouth Doctor. I ordered my parts last Fall, and they do a nice job or the parts.

I spoke to Eddie, and he has a 392 engine in stock, he claims to have built 15 of this particular engines. There is an 392 engine for sale locally that I will have inspected shortly.

Here is a peak at some parts...

It's good to hear you're happy with the Plymouth Doctor, can't wait to see what they'll send me.

Eddie is a straight up guy, no bs, and is there to help you all the way. He'll send you a couple of hundred pics during the whole build process, and a few vids with explanations and the initial start up/camshaft break in, lasting 20 minutes. He'll even give you a warranty for 100,000 trouble free miles. He'll think with you and wants to make sure you're 100% satisfied. It's his name on the line. I've heard nothing but great stories about HemiHaines. I personally would not bother with buying a different block if he has one in stock.......just a thought.

    Good luck in deciding.

Hello. I called Eddie, and he gave me a quote via email...very professional and prompt. He has what I want so as it turns out the "local motor" turns out to be not the best deal. Hey I had to try, but Eddie says that most of the parts on a complete engine will be replaced anyway.

Considering I want to make the body as solid and integrated as possible, I fabricated some pieces to strengthen the triangular bars located between the top of the body and the c-notch. The sheet metal I had previously made on top of the c-notch was still loose and this gave me a good opportunity to weld it all together.

Finished off the left hand side as well. Also did a lot of welding in the trunk area. I hope to finish all the welding and grinding in the trunk next time I have a chance to work on the body, which will be late next week.

Tomorrow I'm going to weld the last bits and pieces on the chassis which is in my garage at home.

Lookin good! Keep up the metal work. I'm waiting for a call from my fabricator...the word is that I'm sitting on all fours, and the chassis was filmed in part of a new Cable show. More details to follow.

Got up early in order to get maximum time in the garage. First I took all the front suspension off, then my buddy Jaap came over for some serious welding. We've re-designed the lower brackets of the four link so we could invert them while still being able to drop bar for adjustments. The new position will also give me better ground clearance as they were too low initially.

Next on the list was to finish welding off the engine mounts, transmission mount and the radiator support.

We've just finished up the upper supports for the triangulated 4 link. They had been tacked into place for mock up purposes. Jaap and I spent about 20 minutes figuring out the best way to box it in conjunction with a sloping frame. In order to get maximum support and strength, we decided that longitudinal bracing would be the best way to handle the forces the rear end will give. Then we cut some metal and made triangulated roofs for both sides. The pictures don't do the artwork any justice.....
