  1. Looks great!

Looking at the gray primer on the interior reminded of something I'll pass along although you may have already thought about it. When considering painting underneath/behind your dash (the part you don't see), paint it a light color. I'm finishing up rewiring a friends '50 F1 and I painted behind his dash panel with a light gray and it makes it much easier to see all of the wires, nuts, etc that invariably get stuffed behind the dash panel. The light from my drop light reflects off the gray and makes the wires and such more visible.

That's a good idea! I've still got some light grey primer which I'll now use behind the dash. Thanks Hivolt5.0 for the simple but effective idea.

Mounted the fuel cell on the frame. I will need about 1 cm of rubber between the cell and the frame for vibration and weight distribution. This way I can also use the mounting bolts without scratching the cell.

Next on the list was the airride frame. Made the basic frame and did a test fit. Hope to have a few more hours tomorrow to finalize the design.

Nice job, looks like you'll have a lot of room in trunk after you have put the fuel cell and the air ride stuff behind the seat.Brilliant!

Fabricated the frame for the airride today. Still need to drill a few holes and a little grinding here and there. Next on the list: two frames for the bench seat. The goal is to have that finished this week.:D Isn't it great how can you spend so much time on things, when in the end, nobody will ever see them........

Outstanding work, as always. I follow quite a few build threads here on the Hamb, but this is my favorite by far! Keep up the good work.

Got my make shift work bench out on the street early this morning. I prefer to work outside when it's dry and by doing so, prevents the garage being covered in a layer of metal dust.

Started by measuring underneath the benchseat and made a little drawing of how I want to build the frame. There will be a frame on either side of the tunnel, as there is no room to make one complete one across the tunnel. (and this way when I need to remove the tunnel from above, all I have to do is unbolt the bench seat.) After cutting all the required pieces, I took them to my buddy Jaap to get welded. My mig welder seems to have problems at times to penetrate the 2 mm steel completely and I want these frames to be as solid as a rock. (they will need to handle extreme g forces.:D)

Considering I'm waiting for my buddy Jaap to finish welding my benchseat frame, I went over to another buddy, Bart (Bart 56 here on the Hamb) and help him position the new 4 link he got for his 56 truck. Finished the job in three hours! And came out looking good as well.:)

Thanks for the compliment Plung! It is appreciated. Just picked up my frames for the bench seat and am going to make them fit tomorrow. It's going to take a lot of measuring and cutting, but I'm sure it's going to work.

Started work on the bench seat frames today. Mounted the seat and did a trial fit. I've left the legs long so I can cut them to size due to the uneven floor. These frames will give me a strong base and also something to use for when it's time to upholster. It's off to work now, so another update will follow next week.

Thanks guys! I realize that the making of these frames is not the most exciting stuff in the world, but it must be done.....

Most builds don't include the frame, I guess it is an out of sight out of mind kind of thing. Eric I am with you, build it from the frame up so that you know what you have.

I have a couple of questions. Where did that seat frame originate from or did you build it? I love the simplicity of it. secondly, what are your intentions for concealing the supports below? you going to wrap them? what provisions did you make to the floor there for additional support?

The bench seat itself is from Bowens. I built the support frames myself. There are two of them as the bench seat is adjustable and will move forward/aft just above the tunnel in order for me to get the required head room. They will eventually be covered by leather. With regards to the floor support: like on the frames I made for the fuel cell and the airride, there will be plates welded to the bottom of the legs with holes for nuts and bolts which will go through the floor. This should be enough. If not, I will duplicate the plates for underneath the floor.

Got quite some work done this morning, despite the kids having holidays. Finished off and test fitted the airride frame. Bolted the airride to the frame and apart from being a tight fit, it worked out well. There is enough room to connect the air lines and sensor wiring. I can also completely remove the black cover in case I need to trouble shoot.

Continuing on from what I did this morning. Used a grinder to shorten the legs and got both seat frames sitting level in every direction, quite a job, considering the floor is undulated due to the original mounting positions. Mounted the bench seat and decided I'm going to lower it by an inch and a half, so it can slide forward over the highest part of the tunnel near the shifter. (and yes, I will leave some room for insulation and carpet.:D)

Thanks Todd! Hope to be finished with the frames tomorrow and will make a start on the column drop and fabricate a support somehow.....
