    Thank you Moparts!

Thank you plmczy! I realise I'm getting closer everyday to finishing it but there's still a long road ahead of me before it's completed to my satisfaction.;)

That's a good idea! I was thinking of getting the shirts made after the car is finished, so it represent the car completely correct. I'd sell them at cost price to all my Hamb friends, and sell them to the general public for a bit more.:D

Thanks Scott. Yes the grill is aluminium. I picked it up while I was in the States a few weeks back. It's in much better shape than my old one and shaves about 2-3 pounds off, therefore a lighter front and more weight to the rear.:D:D:D

Just spent the whole morning bolting/unbolting the front fenders/supports/etc. Finally got it in the correct position and bolted it all up again. The trim line is now equal from the front to the back. I'm going to have to reposition and re-weld the bar that supports the radiator support slightly, but I'll do this once the body is off the chassis. The only thing I need to do is lower the hood a few millimeters, but this can be done by lowering the hinges slightly and hammer the bottom of the nose (hood) slightly.

Eric, never noticed before, but does the 41's grill hang lower then the fenders edge like it shows in your pics? My 40 the fenders and grill meet the same. Is your fenders chopped/channeled down or something?. But man the car is looking great!! love it..

This is the way it came from the factory. The grill is lower, probably so that the front bumper brackets can go through it. The lower part is also hidden behind the bumper, so normally no one would see it. Here is a pic of my car with the original grill and one pic with the lines I want to re-produce on mine.(be it with vertical lines between my grill and the fenders as I haven't yet found a way to weld aluminium to steel.:D)

That thing is starting to look really good. That is cool about the aluminum grill. Are you going to have an issue with dissimilar metal?

Nice wheel/tire combo btw, it looks right for the car.

On a completely different note I just bought a house with a large 4.5 car garage, so I will be able to have more room and be able to start competing with you Eric. :D :D :D

first off Ill take a shirt! You should make one that is the just the engine! That thing is beautiful!

I love reading post from around the world, and hearing you say you need to lower the hood a few "millimeters", instead of "inches" I work in metric for a Japanese auto supplier, and it really is easier to use!

Anyway as usual its looking great!

T-shirt sounds cool,i'd take one. Are you going to fix the space between the lower edge of your fender and the lower edge of the grille? Most of the time guy's that want to make the front end a one piece, usually just use body filler to get rid of the seam. But after awhile of driving it tends to crack and break out.

Thank you 46binder. I'm not there yet! It's difficult to say I'm "proud" of the work I've done so far, but yes, I'm happy with it.

Thank you Scott. The dissimilar metals come into play in two different ways. One, I won't be welding the grill to the fenders. (but with a black colour, the gap should hardly be noticeable.) Two, I'll need to ensure that none of the ss bolts come in contact with the aluminium. (I'll be using thin rubber where necessary.)

I've always liked the Caddy hubcaps. Sure, you see quite a few cars in US using them, but here in the Netherslands they're not that common.

I envy your new garage already.........

    Thank you James.

    Thank you n847, good thoughts!

I agree, we just need to convince a few others....:D

    Noted.:D

I'm not going to fill the seams around the grill, but I am going cut the bottom of the grill slightly so it will flow with the fender. This should prevent the grill looking fairly bulky, there where it meets the fender.

Thank you nali for the kind words. I'm going to try and straighten the grill today and determine where to cut the bottom of the grill so that it will flow with the fenders. Fun job!

Before I can continue with anything else, I needed to work out where I'm going to cut the bottom of the grill and do some initial straightening along the passenger fender.

I mounted one side of the grill trim and followed the line until it became horizontal with the bottom of the fender. I was unable to get the correct curvature where the front bumper bracket hole is, but you get the idea. Used some tape to get the outline.

Next treated the aluminium grill with some heat to line it up with the passenger fender. Time to think about the next step......and hope to have some more time tonight.

Thank you nali. A lot of build threads here on the Hamb are very interesting indeed. I view a lot of them for inspiration, thoughts and do's/don't's. Time consuming to say the least.:D

I don't think Eric intends to use any bondo on the car at all! ;) His strive for perfection is perhaps a lesson and inspiration for quite a few of us here, me included.
