What size tires did you order for your 41 Plymouth?

Well Christmas has come all at once! Just received my GoldChainers plaque from KripFink and my garnish mouldings which I bought on ebay. Not that I require the mouldings though.....I just need the vent windows and the hardware that's included. Yes....I've decided to go with vent windows instead of the fixed ones! I realise that quite a bit of modification will be required, but I think it will look a lot nicer in the long run. (and more functional).

btw, i'm still looking for the divider between the vent window and the "main"window, so if someone can point me in the right direction, this would be greatly appreciated!:D:D:D

Thank you Rich! That chopping of the garnish is a lot of fun isn't it? Can you post some pics on your build thread of the wing vent chop? I have an idea of how I'm going to do it, but it's always great to see how someone else does it. Damn, if I lived a little closer to you, I'd be there helping you!

Thanks Jeff, I'm very happy with it. Just thinking about which color I'm going to use to paint this one....

  10. It only took me 3 months to decide on a colour. :D

Thank you gentlemen for the comments. I feel that if I were to take the easy way out, (ie no vent window or a fixed one.) I would regret it later. I've already spent countless hours on the car, so a few more won't bother me.:D

Just my 10 cents worth Eric but i like the vent windows, I like the attributes of an old car like handles, trims etc etc, take them away and they lose a certain something in my opinion.

Good thing your bringing the vent windows back in there. For some reason they just belong there....nice to see your still not taking any short cuts!

I agree with the other guys, doing away with the vent windows would be kinda streetrodderish, retaining them keeps more of the old school hotrod concept. Plus at 60 mph you can open them all the way and have instant "air conditioning"!

I think that just a single window would look kind of boring.......and the easy way out.

    Good to hear Rock!

A new trend has been started, keep your vent windows.:D:D:D

I had a few hours to spare and dismantled one of the vent windows, which was good fun. Managed to get everything off without any major hassles, and it all still appears to be in good working order. But I will get everything re-chromed eventually....The only difficulty I had concerned the top pivoting pin. It is riveted on to the frame, so I had to grind one side in order to remove it. (I will need to re-position it anyway, which will change the angle and therefore a new base will be required.)

  27. Rebuilding those vent windows is a pain. I rebuilt two from an OT Blazer a couple years ago. Like you, I had to grind off the rivets to take it apart to replace the rubber seal. Fortunately I wasn't chopping it like you are, but it was still a pain. But, it's all part of the "fun". :)

    Eric,
I don't have any pics to show you right now, but I am leaving the pin in its position and relocating the pin-set to fit. The pin is on a relatively flat surface of the vent frame, so when I need to remove material, I can do it below the pin... I have an old book by Tex Smith that outlines garnish mouldings pretty well. I can scan and email it to you if you like.

Looking really good my friend!! The next update I have with pics, my car will be in final paint... Scary.

Thanks Rich! I suppose that is one way of re-locating it. I figured that I'm going to re-shape the vent window frame first, then find the correct postion for the pin directly above the lower swivel pin. That way they are in line. The only foreseeably problem I think will be the vent window rubber stripping that will need to be cut....and rejoined.

Can't wait to see your car in paint!!! got me very curious!

  30. Damn! 137 pages!! Is this some kind of a Hamb build thread record?? Anyways...love the project. these '41 chrysler products are real sleepers and often overlooked, for Fords and Chevy's. They have great art deco lines. EFI 392 is way cool. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
