I have a 41 Plymouth coupe and I am having a problem with both of my doors. The rotating gear on the door itself wont keep the door shut tight. You can shut the door and it wont come open, but it wont keep tight to the strike jam. They both look fine and not too worn, but both sides are doing the same thing. I am not too familiar with this style so I don't know if I need to adjust something or what. The door has no rubber seal left but I cant see that being the problem. I also found a set of NOS assemblies but they are expensive and if I don't need them, I don't want to waste the cash. Any help is appreciated.

replace the seal first, then adjust the striker.

If you have the patience, the latches can be torn down & all the worn places welded & resurfaced. You would probably spend the money for the NOS parts when you see what has to be done ...

  4. When I had my 41 Plymouth coupe I found that the 4dr sedan rear door assemblies and strikers were the same as the opposite front door and much easier and cheaper to find, also I think the rotating gear, locks and strikers are the same up to at least 1948, maybe later if that helps......also I used 1940 Deluxe Ford internal winders, handles & escutcheon plates, much nicer, easier to find, cheaper and new repos much better to look at than daggy old Plymouth inside handles........andyd
