How does the vent motor work?

Does the unit only go fully open/fully closed, or are there intermediate settings?

    in other words; do you just flip the toggle switch to OFF to stop where desired;
alternately letting the motor "coast" to the bottom of travel for closed position?

Then, do you just flip the switch again to raise it? Must be a latching relay of some kind in the circuit.

The motor has a planetary gearbox on it, so the output shaft turns slowly and has an eccentric connected to a helm joint. There is a switch like you use on electric windows that changes direction of rotation. Also, there is a cam that engages a limit switch and stops rotation near the bottom of rotation.

You just let the motor turn until the vent is as open as you want it. Then, you reverse direction to close it. Since I used the OEM linkage, I can adjust the closed tension of the vent.

Keep it up Rockable. I have had my coupe for 12 years now (bought it when I was 13 and it was my first car) and you make me want to get it where you are currently.
Every little bit counts dude, a gallon jug is filled one drop at a time.

It's like eating an elephant. You do it one bite at a time. When you're finished, you know it.....and you're glad. :)

I am going to have to study on this one. Got any more pics? Email them to me, so I can blow them up more.

Is that a 508 compressor or a SD7 "shorty" compressor?

    Thanks!

Anyone used Bouchillon Performance's AC compressor mount? I ordered one yesterday.

Nice. Electric, right, not vaccuum? Nice compact unit.
And Amen to that part about it won't be easy . . . (fellow amateur)

Electric, for sure. I think I am going to run the lines through the kick panel and under the fender. That will keep it fairly clean.

    Howdy,
Sorry for the slow responce I work way too much mostly nights.
The compressor is a Sandon 508 there is about 1/16" between the block and the bolts for the rear cover of the pump.
I am using a four grove pulley on the crank. The mount bolts to the lower timing cover and through the motor mount with a spacer
The pics are all that I have right now. I can take more this weekend and get you dimentions if you are interested. I sent you the pics to your email

The Bouchillon kit is awesome! Goes on easy and looks as neat as you are going to get with a top mount kit. You have to use the Sanden SD7312 "shorty" compressor. southern Rods did not have that. I bought their kit but will end up buying other components from other vendors to complete it. They give you zero information in their catalog or on their website. Makes it hard to do business with them.

I'll post pics of the mounts later when I get the front end off and can take some good shots. If you are looking for Mopar Accessories, check Bouchillon out. Here's a link to my kit. I used the one without power steering,

Ok. I finally got the plumbing worked out for my AC. As you will see, there is a snake's next of plumbing under the passenger side fender. That's better than the engine compartment, in my opinion. I'm still waiting for my grommets to bush the holes.

The condensor was easily fitted after I broke some 18 ga. and made the mounts for it. Now, I have to find a fan that fits my 3" clearance and still does the job.

The first picture is my receive/dryer mount. The second picture shows theirs. When in doubt, make it stout! :D

Part 2. Let me give some props to Bouchillon Performance. These folks are great to deal with and very prompt. Check 'em out if you are working with Mopar power.

Also, I'm looking for a 5/8" molded elbow hose so that I can route that heater supply line under the compressor. Anyone got a part number or model number?

I put my Baileigh 3 in 1 to good use today. I built my first fan shround and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I did not have any aluminum, so I made it from 18 ga. mild steel. It will be painted black.

Because the engine is offset to the PS and is lower than the original engine's fan, I was able to slightly offset the fan toward the DS and upward a tad. By doing this, I was able to use a 16" SPAL fan that is about 4" thick. (Yes, I can get belts on and off without removing anything. :)) This sucker should keep things nice and cool.

Also, I cleaned up my plumbing for my AC a bit. I went to O'Reilly and looked at all of their hoses. I came up with a molded 5/8" hose that will fit underneath the compressor and allow me to run the heater hoses below the AC hoses. Also, I added a 135 degree fitting on the suction side of the compressor. These two things cleaned it up quite a bit.

I'm working on some sheet metal to hide the AC plumbing next. If the weather is nice, I plant to go to AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway next weekend to just look around.

Great work Rock. Thanks for the detailed pics, I'm a few months behind you. Love the hoses out of sight, but aren't you a little worried about rocks etc? Got your dryer under there too! Guess if you stay off gravel roads you'll be alright.

I've been driving Porsche 911s for almost thirty years. They have the dryer under the rear of the front fender where all the rocks would hit it. Never had a problem. This is in front of the tire, so I don't anticipate any issues. Hose won't get hurt at all with rocks. Besides, I'm not planning on any gravel roads. :)

Well, yeah. But the punch list is still quite long. :)

  25. Great work. You make these little projects look easy.

I planned on going to AutoFair, but have two cars sidelined right now and not sure either will be roadworthy by Friday night.

I worked some this weekend, after attending Auto Fair on Friday. Mostly, I removed the front end and welded up all of the holes in the firewall. Also, I had already made a seal for the steering shaft using a 3/4" spring loaded lip seal. I needed to weld up the passage for the old steering column and fit this seal. It doesn't look like a lot, but I worked my butt off getting it all done. It's like eating an Elephant. :)
