That small part on the firewall corner was 41 only . ford changed the shape of the firewall in that corner on the 42 up cars, so it was no longer needed. could it have been that they used 40 firewalls on the 41's ??. would be interested to find out .
AV8 The book im refering to is Edsel Ford and E.T. Gregorie: The Remarkable Design Team and Their Classic Fords of the 1930s and 1940s ISBN: 0768004004 Its a real good book, but i must confess i borrowed my copy to read, so i cant quote it word by word (but i will buy one someday because it's i must to have in your bookshelf) In the book there is a chapter refering how the "parting line" in the fender was created. If i remember right the people from the stamping department came dow to the design department, and took a look at the new car, and said it could not be done. so someone took a palette knife and draw the dividing line. ///// Regards Lars B
lose the running boards with Winfield's kit I would like to get more info/pics about that too Michael
Re: Winfield kit. He's out of catalogs but all it says in there is '42-'48 running board conversion kit. No pictures. When I was at his lace he told me about it. He had to make mine because he didn't have any around. The bummer is that there are no instructions. But like I said, the basic idea is that it extends the doors and body where the running board would have gone. I'll let you know when I get it on the car. He doesn't have a number but his address is: Gene Winfield 8201 Sierra Hwy. Mojave, CA 93501
Bitch'n makes a piece that does away with the running boards also. They list them as fitting 42-48. The reason being that there's a little fabbing on 41's that has to been done on the lower part of the frt fender where the stock boards bolt on.
Mr 42 -- Thanks for the link. That book is already on my shopping list for my trip to Autobooks, Etc. in Burbank next month.
