I have a 41 Willys I just acquired. It's an AC body on a custom ch***is. It has a narrowed 9 inch with 3.73 gears and 31 inch tall tires. I have a stock bore 400 sbc to put in it. The current setup has 5 cc flat top pistons sitting .006 in the hole with .039 compressed headgaskets. It has Dart Pro1 215 cc heads with 64 cc chambers and a Herbert C6KF solid roller camshaft duration @ .050 250/260 lift 600/625 with 1.5 rocker and a center of 106 degrees. It has a **** forged crankshaft, eagle forged 5.7 rods. I'm wanting to make this engine more street friendly because this car will be a street car. What would be the most budget friendly option to do this? Cam swap? Cam and piston swap? When I swap cams I want to go back with a solid roller to use my existing parts. Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks.

what trans? if auto all you may need is a higher stall. if stick try it before you tear into it. After all, it's a Willys.

I have a 4l60e with a 2000 stall converter. I figured I'd have to get a bigger stall. This motor was in a car setup for drag racing and ran on race fuel. Do you think it would be safe to run on 93 with this current setup with a bigger converter?

    compression should be around 10:1 if current engine is 350, 11.4 if 400. 10 works, 11.4 doesn't.

moved to the off topic forum. Tubbed pro street cars are off topic on the main board, and the "traditional customs" forum is reserved for the most period correct custom cars built in the style of 1965 and before

After entering my numbers in a compression calculator, I've come up with 11.37 static and 8.43 dynamic compression. From my understanding if I cut a few degrees of timing I should be able to run on premium pump gas. What's your thoughts on this?

Almost every Willys seems to be built like a g***er. I'd love to see one more street oriented.
It would still be fast as hell.

With11.3 CR your gonna need a cam with a tight LSA like 108* to bleed off some compression at low speed.
You go with a 'shelf grind' with 112* OR possibly 110* and you risk spark knock even when using 93 octane gas.
Street engine does NOT need a WILD lift number either. It stresses the valve train needlessly.
I'm a big fan of Delta Cams OR Howard Cams.
Get a custom ground stick and you should be happier.
Duration.....my guess (like all the above 'advice') maybe 230* intake 235/240* exhaust.
Install an adjustable cam gear whichever way you go.
Your present camshaft retarded a few degrees may make it more streetable !?!
Let us know which way you go.....
