Hey... I am swapping out the original enclosed drive line rear end for a newer 12 bolt. I know I have to redrill the holes forward on the spring perch to center the wheels in the wheel well. Does anyone know how far forward I need drill to bring the rear end back? Im working on a 42 chevy seeedan... Thanx!
no I don't... but i don't think there is the "hole" and pin system on a '42 spring perch. it's all different. I used '57 chevy springs, and rearend on a '41. worked great
I have a friend who did that on a 48 Chevy and he was not happy. The old springs and stuff was not enough for the 350 he had. He ended up buying the rear end kit from Chassis Engineering. ALL of it ( about $500 ) and it put the wheels right in the wheelwell ... rode and handled a LOT better
you have the old rearend....measure it. The other way to do it is to put the wheel in the wheelwell at the final ride height, and move it back and forth till it looks "right". But the shape of the wheel opening is deceiving, it's not round, it's kind of sloped at the front and back. Take your time.
I did measure... I got an inch and a half. But I think I will have to move it around in the wheel well until I like it. It still doesn't seem center. I plan on getting CE rear leafs in the future but I wanna drive in now! Im impatient...
