I have a 66 Buick Riviers GS that I am taking the motor and trans out of. My plan is to eventually put them in my 55 Buick special. What should I remove and save for this conversion. I plan on selling the 66 Buick after I remove the parts I need so it will not be around to get parts from later. Thanks
I would keep the complete engine/trans(a switch pitch TH400) as well as a lot of the small parts you might need...complete throttle linkage, trans linkage, crossmember and driveshaft yoke, engine mounting brackets from the frame, power steering hoses, rear axle if you have room. And check the front brake drums...finned aluminum? I junked a 1964 Wildcat in 1982 and used a LOT of what I saved 20 years later. Frank
if you didn't know, the 66 should have a quadrajet manifold, worth some coin if you are going to a multi carb setup.
Just as a heads up, GS Rivs seem to be semi in demand, so if it's a complete solid car, it may be worth some money whole...if you are going to take it apart, keep all the trim pieces and good sheetmetal and sell it individually...that stuff is supposedly pretty hard to find and can be pricey! $$$$
I have mixed feelings about yanking that thing apart. Should be worth more as a complete GS. But then again I have bought 2 425's right out of nice Rivi's. You got good advice so far. If it's got the Quadrajet setup on it, keep it and run it. You will not find a better intake setup for it.
Thanks for the replies. To be honest I hate to separte the parts. I bought it with the intention of taking the motor and trans out but it was too nice to do. It has just been stored at other people places for the last couple of years. Things change and now I am ready to get rid of the car but still want the parts for my 55. I want to make sure I take the parts that I will need but not get rid of anything else as I am hoping somebody will want it to do something besides part it out. Like I said, I hate to do it but I can't keep it any longer and I still want the engine and trans.
Be absolutely sure you get the throttle kickdown and S/P trigger and be sure you draw up a wiring diagram so you can put it back together. I didn't do that and now I'm having to piece all that stuff together. When you get that done, send the diagram to me so I can wire my throttle correctly.
