You can't really tell, but that "Cammer" license plate is on this truck. Washington state pick-up in for service at a shop in So-Cal. This truck has a beautiful Cammer built by Jim Green of Lynwood WA. I spy'ed it.
I was in Fresno Thursday with Rich Robers picking up his Brad heads from the machinist and saw a pair of the new repop SOHC heads that you can bolt on to your FE block and relive history..they look very cool, this was my 2nd favorite engine in the '60s, I wonder how one would fit in a '55 wagon.....
I am building a Cammer for this year's Engine Masters Challenge entry. Its gonna be a monster (***uming everything goes OK...) with two four barrels and 527 cubes. I've got some prototype T&D rockers, some new design Comp cams, a couple of the new heads from Bill ****, and a charge card statement that looks like I purchased a Gulfstream. I've built a bunch of nasty FEs but this is a new experience...
But a Gulfstream is not as good looking, sounding or as fast.... Ok so that last one may not be so true. I'm so glad this came back to the top, there has never been and will never be a better, ***ier or better sounding motor. One day I WILL have one..... (Even if its in 1/6th scale...) Doc.
I would like to see the progress of this build. Man... Just look at the SIZE of those things! Boss and Hemi's- step aside.
The new ones are making a ton but that are way bigger then Ford's rendition and I think the new heads are a little different from what I have read. Ed Pink who had contracts to build an engine that would run on nitro said that they were just not a good dragster motor and that it took a lot of rework to make them work on nitro. But he was a wizard and made 'em work.
I saw the MT funny car (s) @ Bristol in 1968. I believe Danny "on-the-gas" drove one. CKC from San Antonio beat one of them in the semi's but guess what? By some strange and unexplained happening the MT car (blue one I think) ended up in the final. My guess is CKC was compensated. I don't know this as fact!!!
Drag Racing like fame go hand in hand it is all about promotion. The Boss was a cool engine though and perfect for what it was designed for which was not drag racing. I will give you this while not considered traditional hot rod fodder by most and the fact that by today's standards they are "not" fast, if you ever got a chance to drive a real one you would never forget it.
