If you only put 5 quarts of fluid in it, you have no where near enough .
Car has to be level to check with the dipstick.
I'll check my shop manual ,but pretty sure the cruise-o in my T-bird takes 11 quarts

If you ran it for an hour low on fluid, you might have burned the pump.

The cruiso need about 11 qt. to fill. These trans can be a pain to fill.

You need to run the trans through the gears with the shifter and keep adding oil until it full. Some trans can take a couple of times till there full.

Run it through the gears put in park and check it . If it take more oil, do it again. until it full.

+ 1 on these taking alot of fluid. I dropped the pan and drained the converter before and I used alot of type F.

Hopefully you didnt burn the pump up. It should come through the ****** cooler line with it running.

I think whomever said you need more than 5 qts to make it function is probably right.
I wouldn't start it up without 10 or 11 qts when you get the new pump.
    Let us know.
I'll start looking for any cruis-o's laying around.
