Heard through the grapevine that it was on a chassis dyno, so those numbers are rear wheel HP number - through an automatic if I'm not mistaken (C4?). I don't believe the French blocks can be bored anymore than a good old block. The bottom end is slightly stronger, but anyone running serious power is running billet caps & girdles anyway, so I see no real advantage here. The French blocks require much more prep due to severe intake port restrictions, but the exhaust ports are much nicer as-is than any old flathead block.
one big advantage,.......... brand new!! Not having to tear down 10 motors to find a least bad block. FLIP
I'm hoping for ~160hp out of my 8BA.....LOL, and I thought I had a lot of cool parts.... The header design on this engine surprised me, I would have thought they'd want equal tube lengths, but I suppose it's not as important on a flathead because of the long exaust passages thru the block? These guys obviously know what they're doing... Gary
Ernie replied: For MORE information on the French flat head, check here ... http://www.sfflatheads.com/home/ Check the "HISTORY" box, - on left - the French flat head is about as "FORD" as you can get!! As of my last communication with them; the 4" stroke crankshaft supply has "dried up." (no longer available)
