JUST CRANKING MY 440 OVER WITH THE STARTER TO GET THE OIL PRESSURE UP, (NO SPARK PLUGS IN), IT WENT UP TO 70-75psi. WHAT SHOULD IT BE? (I HAVE TO BELIEVE IT WILL A BIT HIGHER THAN THAT AFTER IT STARTS). SINCE IT'S GOT PLENTY OF MILES ON IT, NOT A REBUILD, BASICALLY A STOCK MOTOR I AM USING 15W40 OIL,

it might be higher when you start it but it will probally go down some when it reaches operating temp. i've heard people say 10 psi for every 1000 rpm you turn but to me between 40 and 50 is good. even seen as low as 30. it's not always about psi more about volume. good luck

440's will run some pretty high oil pressure, its not unusual to see 60 psi hot at anything above idle and sometimes even up to 100 psi cold.

Before I got too worried, I'd check it with another oil pressure guage.

My 383 had 80 to 90 psi cold at a high idle it worried me a little but never had an issue. It would come down to around 60 psi hot.

My stock oil-pumped 440 had anywhere from 20 to 40. My high volume oil-pumped 440 runs 60-80 just about all the time.
