I am building my first hotrod and cant figure out why my carb will not tune. Is it a bad carb, is it because i do not have an exhaust, or am i missing something?

I purchased a rebuilt carb for my 454 (.30 over) and cant narrow figure out if I got a bad carb. The car starts right up but wont tune.

"won't tune" is such a vague description of a problem...we might be able to help if you tell us a lot more about what you have done, what doesn't seem to be working, what the engine sounds like, etc.

  4. Make sure your vacuum fittings on the carb and manifold are being used or blocked off.

If its the idle mixture screws wont give you a good idle the carb may be mismatched for your engine or vacuum leak.
