A friend put 2, 454's in his boat and now he's noticing some wear on the distributor gear. He bought them from GM but, I think GM stopped making the 454 several years ago and contracted it out to some other manufacturer. What my friend would like to do is find out who that manufacture is so he can ask them about the gear required for the cam. Any help would be appreciated! tommorookian@aol.com
Gm quit making the 7.4 litre in 07 , and sold the rights to Mercruiser ( mercury marine ) , the roller cam they use is a cast style cam they do not use billets , you use a mellonized GM gear . but you have to watch as mercuiser makes a clockwise rotation and a reverse rotation motor and they do use different gears for the torque face of the cam gear . some boats will use 2 standard motors but normally they run one of each type to zero out the torque . the parts are still available from GM for the stock gear . ( it fits v-6's thru v-8's )
