Just a quickie, chaps...once a pair of front backplates - '46-'48 Ford - are stripped of their shoes, cylinders etc, is there any difference between each side? I appreciate that they are stamped (or are supposed to be stamped) with LF or RF, but I've stripped a plate down and completely descaled it with a wire brush and can find no stamping (other than Ford), and can't seem to see anything that would indicate why it could only be used on one side or another. Does anyone know any better?
I have seen most of the front plates stamped, and some not. I would guess the unstamped ones are replacement parts. They aren't different. Having the short shoe on the front situation, I imagine the units were assembled before going on the axle. The guy throwing the brakes & hubs on would have the correct short shoe on the front as long as the assembly was labled. Just a guess, only reason I can think of.
I dont knpw if Im correct ,On the backside there is a notch and I think the notch should be forward. It might not matter.....
Fronts!! but yeah both backplates are the same. They have 4 holes for the wheel cylinders which have 3 bolt holes cast into them so it does'nt matter which side goes on which as long as you have the leading and trailing shoes set up right
Im running two LH , theres no difference at all , Ford done this to confuse us guys later in life .................
