I have searched for reproduction 46-48 hubs to no avail. All I find is the 40 style hubs with the drum on the front. Any thoughts on where to find them. The reason is that I am designing a brake system that will use stock wheels and the back side of the 40 style is not conducive to what I want to do.
I might just have to go and make them myself, that way guys who want to use original Buick drums will have a source of hubs.
I'm working on a casting pattern for these hubs along with wide five hubs. The plan is to cast them in 357 heat treated aluminum. This is part of my plan to make disc brake kits that fit with stock wheels including wide five wheels.
I found that Pete and Jake's sells hubs designed like the 48 hubs. They are machined to accept finned aluminum Buick brake drums and I can machine an adapter to fit my disc brake kit to them. They keep the wheel in the correct location and don't use bearing spacers.
I have also found that Walden's Speed Shop also sells an aluminum hub that will accept the finned aluminum Buick brake drum. Theirs is made of 6061 billet aluminum and has 3 lug patterns 5x4-1/2", 5x4-3/4", and 5x5-1/2". They look to be a quality product.
