Guys , I bought a 46 ford banjo rear.... Can't read the gear ratio on the thing... So I did the old way of checking gears, drum Rotation to driveshaft Rotation.... Why am I coming up with 1 revolution of te drum is exactly 2 turns of the shaft...????
I think you keep one drum fixed when doing this, there are numbers stamped on bottom rib under pinion divide large by small.ex: 34 div by 9=3.7777777
With one drum held, two turns of the other drum for one of the shaft means a 4 to 1 ratio (4.11 is the actual Ford ratio available.) The spider gears speed the rotation of the drum by a factor of 2.
If you're going to use it anytime soon, you might as well take it apart to inspect it and then you can count the teeth and know the ratio for sure.
You are correct.however I was trying this when I was at the guys house to purchase the axle. So it was a little hard to split it. I bought it anyways cause it has excellent brakes and those were worth the asking price themselves . I did check it. 4:11 . I bought a 3:78 40' rear last night so thanks guys!
