OK, I have a 46 heater, with defroster. it's the type with the small control panel under the dash with a switch and pull cable. Does anyone have an idea of the switch wiring? The fan has 4 wires coming from it, all different colors and the switch has 4 contacts.. that gives 64 possible combinations if my math is correct...
Also, where does the input power go? A wiring diagram would be cool!
    Thanks

This nearly drove me mad many years ago...
There are diagrams, but normally the wires have faded beyond ID.
I finally just sat down with my motor and a battery...found a pair that spunnit one way, and the other pair spunnit the other way. Puttem on the switch, you can swap the pairs if they turn out not to match the heater/defrost logos on switch. The switch hooks them up either direction with one extra click each way to run the circuits through a resistor for slow speed.
Power wire can be from ignition switch to heater switch. If it all works, there are 6 to 12 adaptors sized for heater motors.

I did what bruce did, I only got one winter out of the original heater motor on 12v though. After a lot of searching I posted on here a 12v blower motor that is small enough to fit into the stock spot. I'll try to dig up the info...

On my 1947 Ford I used the wires that ran the motor in one direction. I hooked the switch up and played with the connections until I got the fan to blow the direction I wanted. I also converted to 12 volt and switched to a 12 volt motor. The Four Seasons part number for a motor that will work with slight modification is 35576. It has been working great.

Gotta find the diagram I made when I decoded the blasted thing, probably about 1970.
What I said above is not quite right...4 wires from heater, 4 terminals only on the switch I located in basement, so what I said isn't quite there. Power wire needs to be accounted for somehow.
Did anyone copy the diagram that used to be on the Fordbarn tech page?? I think it is gone in the new setup of the board.
