has anyone used a 46 box in their model a ,was thinking of mounting it so the arm comes out under the rail...

  2. I used a 52-54 Merc/Ford box and wheel. Dang it fit nice.

Yup... I've done exactly that with an early cross steer box. It has worked great.

The pitman arm will face up, but it should work. I actually reversed one before I found an F-1 box that I'll use instead.

Not to hi-jack-just a question related to this...

How many steering joints did you have to use to get the fat fendered box & side steer to work correctly?

I fabbed mine up with two & I'm not too happy about it.

    Thanks.

Zero, I used the stock column and shaft.

Any chance of getting a picture?

I'm not visualizing how the side steer would clear the pan with the box being at somewhat the same location as the Model A stock location. I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.

+1 for Kevin's tech post. I referred to it quite a bit when I did mine on my '34. I built a bolt on bracket to mount the box that puts the pitman shaft above the framerail because of ground clearance, but it could easily be done to exit underneath if you have the room.
