Obviosuly I'm a Newbie. I am doing a scratch build project with a Rod Garage Chassis. I'm buying my front axle for a fenderless Model A Truck Project.

4" Drop. Discs in front. Cross Steering. I've got a '57 Ford 9 inch Stock Lenghth Rear end.

What's going to look better? What's going to handle better?

I know these ar preference questions, BUT.. I would like some two cents with experience.

    Thanks

  3. Huh?

    The 48".

  4. This is my take---You may not want fenders, but the next guy to own your project might. If you run a 48" axle, it will be too wide to run front fenders. If you go for the narrower axle, it will look and ride as well as a 48", and it will also allow for running front fenders at some future date.---Brian

was going to ask what wheels....i run a 46 in my coupe ...steel wheels wouldn't work with fenders....but my halibrands fit fine. 48 would work steelies....if thats your thing. and also depends on how low it is as to which work as well.........

  6. I'm running a 4" dropped front axle, 46" in a model A (See Avatar). The wheels are Kelsey Hayes 15" steel wheels. If you run a 4" dropped axle, you HAVE to have the wheel/tire centered in the fender, or it rubs all the paint off the edges of the fender when you turn a corner.

If I was building a hiboy style truck or coupe I would go with the 48 in. If I was worried about re-sale then I might go with a 46/47 inch. I love the look of a 48 inch axle on a hiboy coupe with all of those holes drilled in it. :)
