anyone on the hamb have one?

I just did some tradeing for very solid '46 plymouth. Outward appearance its stock... but its got a 360/727, nova sub, 9" rear.

Came with 3 hoods, dashs and boxes full of parts... seats are redone and wrapped up in plastic. Literally fills up a 2 car garage.

Kinda stoked... and was thinking about finishing it to sell to help get my shop started. Its almost finished. Its probably worth around 4 grand the way it sits.

I don't think I've ever seen a business coupe (2 seater) before... just the sedans. It looks alot like a 46 ford. Its black. I'll take pics and post next week. Its really solid.

I know where a '46 Dodge Business coupe is setting and its in pretty good condition. Owner won't sell it though, his Dad bought it brand new, and he is "going to fix it up one of these days".

I first asked about it nearly 20 years ago and its still setting in the same spot. That poor old Car will rust into a pile before he sells it.

  8. Congrats! I always thought the mopars and G.M.s of the mid to late 40's were better looking than the FoMoCo stuff.. I love the MoPar bidness coupes even better than the club coupes.
Real men that mean business have business coupes...or sumthun.
Hey! Buy that sumbitch and leave the flathead 6 in it and I'll race your ass at the HAMB drags with my flathead 6 Poncho business coupe! We'll have a coupe-off! It'll be great!
    This time, I promise..........no "NOSS"...

Rock- I was just looking at pics of 46 fords and I do like the roof line on the plymouth biz coupe better... damn it almost looks more like a 40 ford!

It would be fun at the drags but hey... you have a 389 for that poncho, and my guess is that it'll be in the car by then.

The biz has a 360 chrysler, not sure what year but its got a 2bbl and the motors clean. I wish i had pics DAMN. Its like listening to the ball game on the radio!

donny... im looking into getting some small bizz grants as well. I'm really getting excited... i'm done w/my degree at stout in May. So hopefully the shop w/take off... Thanks man~

Yep Tuck I saw the differences, I just thought all chrysler product, bus. coupes were 3 windows? I didn't know Plymouth made a 5 window Bus. coupe. I thought the 5 windows were called "Club Coupes?"

didnt sowhat graft a olds grill in that car? or was that a different one?

  16. Tuck....Plymouth Business coupes were 5 windows..[you have one] and club coupes had a longer top with a back seat. The photo of the purple car you posted is a club coupe, not a 2 door sedan.
Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler business coupes were 3 windows but they also offered a 5 window club coupe.
Two door sedans had a waaaaaaaaay longer top..same as a 4 door only the car only had 2 doors.

yep thats the one that clark put the olds grill in..

  18. Glassholes car is the club coupe. They are a forgotten gem but are slowly gaining popularity. Here's Glasshole's car. It's got a 3 inch chop up front and about 5 in the back.

  19. Someone posted a '49 Dodge Business coupe the other day, then it just disapeared (sp?). It was a 3 window. I like the dodge better, just a personal preference I guess.
Wish the post hadn't evaporated, I wanted to contact the guy.

Haven't worked on it since Thursday. We're waiting on some parts he ordered so I can set up the rear suspension.

  23. sounds good. Sometimes waitin' on parts is a good thing. Saves ya from Burnout.

  24. Funny, I am dealing on one myself (2 seater w a jump seat), comes w a 4 dr parts car for $1200, still looking at the 39 dodge as well , funny how mopars are suddenly of interest now hun? the good Ford n chevy stuff is used up or way to $$$$$.Still looking for swap info myself, either car is mine soon as they dug out again.-SNOW
    go to -
    www.P15-D24.com
-LOTS of info there as well as a spotters guide ,history and pics etc., here is the one I am dealing on.
IF I get this instead of the 39, The first thing I want to do is make those rear wheel wells ROUND! IMO they look to much like a 49-52,but thats just the Gasser GUY in me I guess.LOL

    Get some pictures, man!

  26. Mike with the jump seat if it were a Hudson it would be an Opera Coupe. Not sure about MOPARs, the wife's the MOPAR nut in the family.
I think the radiused wheel wells will be slick, but what do I know.

  27. Most if not all except salesmens specials came with either perm or fold down jumps as an option, opera or bussiness cpes were merely a brand specific name, some called em opera others bussiness cpes ,Ford made it a specific model as did GM for a short time, this is true for most makes F,C or Mopar,I have never found a Mopar refered to a "opera cpe " in any lit. BUT that doesn't mean there were'nt any, some simply had a plywood shelf and nothing else in the case of the SM spec., owned a number of em over the years, held true right up to '57 or 8. Not very safe as they were attached to the interior side qtr panels ,so you can imagine say a T bone acc.,NOT pretty. I think they were made illegal after that year or near it.as were suicide doors in '49 or so.I am not sur how Linc. made the continental moredoor sedan and 'vert wash years later , but they did.

  28. The Lincoln suicide doors probably had everything to do with $$$.
I mentioned the Hudson Opera Coupe because I had a couple of them, my favorite a '39 Ghost Grey with a 283/powerslip. It's still running around the NW, go figure.
That and I figured it was a good way to get info without really asking. [IMG] See I learned something on the HAMB today. Thanks Mike.

  29. Only one reason I love this site, I'm no expert by any means ,and almost evryone here has something they know (even if they don't ralize it) to add.YThe opera comment of mine only pertained to Mopars , Caudse i know other makes made em ,kinda like a the roadster and convert difference in the lt 30's to early 50's,lol,just depends on which brand or even salesmen you talked too.

There's a '46/'47 Club Coupe I've spotted in someone's ditch in the woods, since the id plate is rubbed out by the weather, going on other physical features, but can tell it's a club not a business coupe. It's got a lot of damage, but am still mulling it over for a future rod or custom project. The pic posted ain't a coupe, but the scallops may give you an idea (it's in a 'yard in Redding).
Any pics out there for ideas for a Club Coupe?
