I have a 46 V8 that I put the new mallory electronic distributor on, (2 bolt with crab like cap). Problem: The cap winds up directly under the fan belt...no way to put the wires on it. Anyone had this trouble? only thing I can see at this time is to eliminate the fan and use electric, not my first choicce,,as I wanted to heep the "old" look.

Throw the thing away...you are at the beginning of finding its problems! Get a '46-48 distributor, electronically converted ones are out ther...try GMC Bubba on here...and solve all the problems at once.
The early Ford distributor, by the way, is based on Mallory patents...not so much the current Chinese Mallorys.

x2, mallory isnt the quality of product it used to be. If you do decide to run it make sure you carry a spare everything.
