I recently bought a 460 to swap in my 56. I need my little 5.0l to back in my Falcon. I could fab mounts but I found some from Crites to make the swap easier. FPA makes a goofy looking short tube header in 1 3/4" size but I was wondering if anyone has used anything else. From the pictures Stan at FPA sent me the biggest issue seems to be clearance past the steering box. I think a rack conversion would help this out but I am sure it would cause problems some where else. Any pointers on mounts or headers would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a link to the headers. http://www.fordpowertrain.com/FPAindex/headers1.htm Link to the swap mounts. http://tiptopwebsite.com/websites/index2.php?username=colson43&page=4 Link to the header pictures I got from FPA. http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/fordsbyjay/1956 Ford Mainline/FPA 460 headers/
Jay , I am going to be building a 1970 Ford 429 for my 49 or 50 Ford tudor that will be a g***er . I am going to be using long tube headers and just cut and adjust them to fit . I will be using them as fender-well headers but you get the idea . It would really be best to buy the tubes and make your own to kustom fit them in you 56 . There won't be very much room but you will need to get them back as close to the firewall as possible then down . It can be done but will take some time and Cutting & Welding to make them fit and look good . I will be making mine similar to the ones in the pictures from the FPA link . Just basically straight down at an angle and behind the front wheels . Have you considered using a 69 or 70 set of exhaust manifolds ? They do flow very well and go back to the firewall . They should work . Just a thought . Jim
The factory had 460 two piece motor mounts in F150 and F250 for several years. They looked like they would come close to dropping right in the upper holes on the 54 to 56 frame.
