We broke in the 460 tonight. Let me tell you, I was more nervous during that 30 minutes than at my wedding! ha ha. The car runs beautifully, idles nicely with a bit of a lope to it, and really screams when I hit the throttle. I couldn't be more pleased with the 460... But, after breakin, I put the car in gear to move it out of the garage. It won't budge. Nothing. no change in rpm when I put the thing in gear...it doesn't even try to move. Now I had the C6 rebuilt years ago, but never put it back in the car. I checked the fluid, it has 12 quarts. I checked to make sure I had all 4 converter studs through the flexplate. I pulled a tranny cooler line off to see if I had fluid coming through...I do not. So, I figure, the transmission pump is bad? Does this sound right? Any other possibilities? thanks.
Have you cycled it back and forth through the gears? I had a tranny guy tell me that if you don't do this it will not fill the convertor all the way. The last auto I had I did this when I put the new tranny in and every time I went through the gears I could feel it load the engine more and more. I can't say that I know too much about autos as I like three pedals in my cars but it was the experence that I had. Jaysin
Never heard that before but its worth a shot, other then that I would definetly be checking out the pump
is the converter seated into the trans correctly ? is it a stall converter or stock ? whenever i put a converter in, i always dump a quart or two of fluid into the converter before putting it into the trans. another thing to check is the position of the trans filter. if it is too close to the bottom of the pan (against the pan) it will not suck fluid. i had this happen with a th400.
Was the converter seated in the front pump. I had some come in were the person had about 1/4 cap between the trans and block and used the bolt to take up the cap. By doing this they broke the front pump. Took the converter out and and looked in the front pump and the two ears were broken.
Have a newer OT car that wouldn't move also. Seems the fluid drained out of converter. I ran it through the gears, added fluid, did it some more and now the car moves.
I did that once. grenaded a perfect th400 with all the goodies cause i got in a hurry. dumb dumb DUMB!
With no fluid coming though the line it sure sounds like the pump gears are busted. Unfortunatly you will have the pull the tranny to fix it. I had a converter baloon on me from over reving an engine in the past and it took out the pump. I lost all the fluid pressure and it quit moving.
Thanks for all the replies. I cycled the thing through the gears quite a few times, but it doesn't even feel like it wants to try and move. I know that the converter is seated correctly I double checked that when i put the trans on the block. I have a feeling the pump is broken. Years ago (2000) when the motor and trans were first built, and I first put them together, I didn't have the converter fully seated and wound up cracking the bellhousing trying to get rid of that "pesky" 1/4" gap. ha ha. I imagine that I could have broken the pump at that time too.... Oh well, live and learn. I'll pull the trans out tonight and see whats going on. Again, thanks for the replies.

I put a new trans in tonight, and the thing finally moves under its own power. 9 LONG years of waiting!!! I haven't been happier in years!
