$461.00 flathead v8 gaskets?

    OK, sniffing around on Evl-bay, Can someone please help me out here, When does one need a set of head gaskets that cost $461.00 for a flathead, WTF!:eek:

    I will hardly use anything but cometic gaskets on harleys at the shop. They are far superior gaskets to anything else on the market, but my flatty has some regular gaskets on her. Just dont see the need, with relatively low compression and plenty of bolts to hold everything tight.

    Guys I know who run door slammer drag cars on nitrous down in low 5s and high 4s (1/8mi) all run Cometic.

    I used them on my blowen coupe worked great. Not sure I will buy them for my 8ba at 461.00.

    Yeah, I think they are for very high compression, high rpm, race engines.
    Low comp, low rpm street applications need not apply.

    Slightly OT, but I just saw a Permatex ad from the '30's promoting their new Form-a-gasket. The mechanic saved the $3 a flathead gasket set cost by using the new stuff. Wonder what head gaskets cost then?

    I can see it maybe If the engine had 15lbs. of boost.... Naaa, I still would'nt spend that much on head gaskets, I'm sure this company probably makes them for the space shuttle, But a flat head, Makes as much sense to me as a pair of studded cheater slicks....:eek:
