OK, sniffing around on Evl-bay, Can someone please help me out here, When does one need a set of head gaskets that cost $461.00 for a flathead, WTF!
how about an auction # or link to it? looks like the cost of a new set of heads... sure you are reading it right?
custom made head gaskets http://www.cometic.com/aboutus.aspx never seen them before. i buy all my stuff through Reds Headers. nothing but good things to say about them. http://www.reds-headers.com/default.htm

I will hardly use anything but cometic gaskets on harleys at the shop. They are far superior gaskets to anything else on the market, but my flatty has some regular gaskets on her. Just dont see the need, with relatively low compression and plenty of bolts to hold everything tight.
Guys I know who run door slammer drag cars on nitrous down in low 5s and high 4s (1/8mi) all run Cometic.
Yeah, I think they are for very high compression, high rpm, race engines. Low comp, low rpm street applications need not apply.
Slightly OT, but I just saw a Permatex ad from the '30's promoting their new Form-a-gasket. The mechanic saved the $3 a flathead gasket set cost by using the new stuff. Wonder what head gaskets cost then?
I can see it maybe If the engine had 15lbs. of boost.... Naaa, I still would'nt spend that much on head gaskets, I'm sure this company probably makes them for the space shuttle, But a flat head, Makes as much sense to me as a pair of studded cheater slicks....
