My friend just had a Mustang II front end installed on the original frame on his 51 chevy suburban and he is looking for help in deciding which header to install.... does he need a rear dump or block hugger header or ????. We tryed to mock up an old style block hugger and they would not clear the steering shaft. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.....I should also mention that he is using a SBC and a 400 trans, and he installed a brake booster under the floor...... thanks again
ck out sandersonheaders.com they make good headers for all kinds of special applications. I got a set from them for my 50 pu with a big block, not alot of extra room but everything clears. Larry
I'll have to dig up the p/n on these headers for ya (not sure how soon I can dig though as I'm covered up right now)... they're an early ChevyII Hooker application. Very similar setup as I have: sbc w/ underfloor booster. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=247949&d=1164766142 BTW Cptkaos - makes me want to rethink the sbc thing!!....
OK, here's the info. I stand corrected on the application. They are an S-10 V-8 conversion header. I found the paperwork where I bought them. The Hooker p/n is 2837. The Hooker website no longer has the picture available so I recommend you definitely find a current listing and picture to verify in case Hooker has changed part numbers. Hope this helps.
I went through three different block hugging headers before I found one that just missed the shaft. I believe it was finally the Sanderson I ended up with although its been 11 yrs and I dont remember for sure. And that was after i moved the engine over some to clear.
I'm building one now and I used Sanderson blockhuggers. I have a small block with straight plugs. I will have to trim the motor mount and use two joints but it will clear. Remember that if you want to get low the full headers might not have ground clearence..............
I've done some research for my truck, and I know for V8 swaps, Sanderson headers come pretty highly rcommended, thats from both V8 swap and V8 S10 guys, haha not that that means shit, just thought I'd back up Petejoe with what I've heard..
