    G'day

I've got a 47 Chev. The K-member is about had it and I was thinking about replacing it rather than rebuilding it but I am open to all input.

When I got the car, someone else had started it and there was more tube work than an oil refinery, weighed more than the ship it was imported on and had enough room to fit a pea shooter exhaust !!!! :D

I'm trying to design the new one that will act as a rear trans mount and have enough room to be able to get an exhaust past it without the exhaust hitting on the ground.

I would love to see any other pictures of this type of chassis with mods etc.

Thanks for the help. I've looked at a couple of books with Chevs, but as you know, most are full of fords with different ways of doing the same thing.

In one of these books in particular, they said you should never weld to the chassis as they are too flexible and you create a stress point at the weld, and it will crack the chassis around the weld. Has anyone experienced this?

the book says bolt all parts in. Anyone agree or disagree with this??

    Thanks

    Dan

When building Fleetmaster's '47, we built a box k-member that sits on the bottom of the frame rails. The 3" exhaust fits between it and the body, you can't even see it from the side of the car. You can see part of it in this picture, I'll see if I can find more:

    Thanks
I would love to see more pictures, Even of the rest of the car.

Have you used this set up for many miles, I ask I only because they say the rails will crack over time(miles)!!!

Is that just a K or is it an X member

    Thanks again!!:):):)

It's only been on the road for a year. Search Fleetmaster's posts and you'll get the whole story. It was built with alot of help from the HAMB. It's just a K-member. Actually, the cross brace is to hold the driveshaft loop. The tranny is held in place by the stock transmission crossmember, moved back, with the center modified. The car is in primer now, ready for paint, but it was driven all last summer. It's powered by a 496 bb chevy and modified 2004R tranny. With a 4:11 9" it moves pretty well. Here's all the pictures I can find right now:
