I just started helping some friends build a '47 chevy coupe. We just swapped the leaf springs from side to side to gain some more tire clearance. Has anyone else performed this mod? If so, how large a tire can you fit without tubbing the rear? Also, does anyone have experience with aftermarket IFS for this chassis? They haven't decided which one to use yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, this car is being built by/for a 15 year old to be his first car.
...I guess this isn't really any of my business, because it isn't my car, but I personally think there shouldn't be big fat tires in the back.......throw some wide ass whites under there and make a taildragger custom....please no tubs.....it isn't really the right style car to tub out and make all pro-street. But once again its not my car
we're not tubbing it, don't worry, but it is going to have a slight nose down rake because he's going to occasionally drag race it. The stock width tires are just way to small to make any traction at all.
My buddy here in town is running a MII front end under his 47. It's a Fatman crossmember and junkyard A-arms and spindles. Not sure about the springs. In the back are Chassis engineering springs. Not sure about the tire sizes but I can find out. His rear springs are not switched though. And I think Bradberry wins the prize for the neatest icon under his name. That is really cool looking!
Thanks Terry! I actually drew that awhile ago and used that character in a childrens book I wrote and illustrated for a creative writing class....It was called "Frank N. Stein and the Missing Wrench" I got docked some points because the teacher said it was too goary for a children's book....I don't think she got the point... Wayfarer - Tell him to build it like this.....This is Eyeballs Chevy.
Bradberry, that car is bitchin', of course I'm into customs. I don't think I could convince them to go that way. They are more of a hot rodding family. Everything they own has a big block in it.
when I do one of that era Chevy's I always cut the 3/4"wide lip off the OUTSIDE of the frame RAIL [thru the wheel well]
