I picked up a 47 Stylemaster but it had a 46 title. Upon further stripping of paint, rust, and 65 years of dirt I found a Serial number on the car, Engine number and good floorboards. Problem is the serial number does not match the title. Not knowing the difference between a 46 and 47 (grille) I bought it. I think all I have to do is get it inspected by the local auto theft division of the police department and then get assigned a new title. The DOT has already run the VIN I found on the A-pillar tag and it is clear. Should I go ahead and fix the title to match the car or is it a big deal when going to sale. Really do not want to do a bonded title cause it puts you in limbo for 3 years. Any experiences greatly appreciated.
if it was me id fix it now , mismatched paper work / vin numbers seems to lead to problems later on , that none of us need
