Carbs & Chrome, at the pace this thing is progressing it may be something I never own. Surely it will have to be tuned to run on ethanol because if this thing ever gets finished there won't be any gasoline left
Sawzall, stay tuned but you'll have to be patient my virtual progress ticks by at a 1/2 hour increment per workday (lunch) and late at night when the wife and little ones have gone to bed, however, I should make some good design headway this winter.
Have you put much thought into the FEA end of it? I'm curious about what restraints and loads you'll apply. I've thought about doing similar ****yses but just don't have the background in mobile equipment to know what sort of loads to apply.
40Tudor, I haven't given the input loading or restraints much thought as of yet. The biggest thing with a FEA is that the output is only as good as your inputs and that is the tricky thing here - there are many variables. I will update the thread as I get into this portion of the design.
Here's an update, I've mostly just added some nice visual touches to things on the 3d model, added a bed, painted it blood red, added a Winter's quickchange and turned the tires into wide whites with pie-crusts on the back. I've also tinkered a little more with the frame design although it is still far from complete (i.e. I just started on the back section). The hemi has become a must on this build - now just to find one in my neck-of-the-woods. <!-- / message --><!-- attachments -->
The quartering to view from the ground is pretty awesome. I like the mix of the high tech frame with the old engine and body. I can't wait to see the actual buildup. Matt
Well it's been ages since I've posted anything here, unfortunately design development has slowed (new baby arrived in early Feb ) and parts procurement has hit a standstill (do to financial situations ). But I have managed to tinker away with the 3d design and add in some stuff (6-71 blower, blower drive accessories, vintage injection scoop, some door handles and mirrors). I've also tweaked the '47 cab model a little bit for a more accurate representation and added some chrome window trim. Overall things are looking really nice in the virtual world, hopefully the real world picks up soon!
