How many vin plates are on a 47 Ford and where? Is there a frame # stamped on them and where ? Thanks in advance, Steve sfm1951
A serial number (not a VIN) is stamped on the top side of the left front frame rail between the crossmember and the steering box, about midpoint of the frame under the B pillar area, and above the rear axle. You won't be able to see the last two until the body is removed. The number was first stamped on top of the transmission, up near where it bolts to the engine bellhousing, as the engine/trans combo came off the line. As it was lowered into a ch***is a worker copied that number onto the frame. The serial number tells you nothing about paint color, body style, build location (unless you are foreign) or options.
Here is one location where the VIN # is stamped on the top of the transmission where it bolts to the engine.. This is a 41 Ford. 1947 is the same just a different number. This shows where the rest of the VIN #'s are stamped om your 47. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm
