Yep, 11 Gage. you are correct, slide on camper. rent bumpers? I ***ume you mean front bumper. Isn't your truck a 41/46 COE? I shall call it "The Blue Turtle".

OK, so I haven't been posting much lately but I have been busy. I now have a completed shell for the Blue Turtle (new nick name). I have also turned over 60,000 miles on the build. Yes, I drive it every day.

Big size is the easy part. Now how much is this gonna cost?, that's the painful question. dropped over $800 on aluminum skin and rivets today, OUCH. Size is 12 foot long, 88 inches wide, 79 inches high at the highest point, for a total of 9 foot 3 inches when it's mounted on the truck ( it is removable). Oh, and by the way gas mileage dropped from 16/17 on the highway to 10. Yeah, that hurts too.

16 to 10 mpg... ouch.. Hoping mine doesn't do the same thing with the sleeper on..

  9. 16 down to 10 seems like a lot. Those square corners sticking out past the cab are costly, but are your gears wrong for the additional drag?

I have a question...how much wind noise do you have in the cab? My COE is deafening on the highway and I wonder if the visor hurts or helps. I love the camper shell that come on and off. I want to do something similar for mine, but on a smaller scale. Keep up the good work.

Wind noise?, yeah I have some of that, but not really that bad. On the AD Chevys they have windlace around the doors and outer door seals so it's not deafening by any means but with the cab profile of a barn I excepted some. I drove mine for a time without the visor and did not notice any difference with it.

I must have too many wind leaks. Guess I need to work on that next.

Or do like I do... get older and more deaf! Loud banging in the garage helps!

OK, so I've made a little bit more progress on the camper. I will leave next week on a 4K mile road trip with this beast on the back.

Lookin good!! Are you actually camping in it? Won't it be a little warm without windows for a cross breeze?

I will be next week, I have an electric fan. I will be heading to Colorado and the evenings are still a bit cooler then SC.
After this trip I will be adding the larger rear windows which will tilt out at the bottom. I also have an AC unit for the side wall. But yea, it may get a little warm.
