I'm wanting info and pics on a47 merc I beam front end wantin to use one in a rat rod any feed back ?
Sorry to tell you this but your not going to get much feed back here except for using the "R" word. So you better buckle up for the ride..........
I think its the same as the ford......if it will quit snowing I will take a pix of my driver and post it
thanks to all that posted usefull info i also agree with greaseguns y does the terminolgy matter we are all on here because we love old cars trucks ect witch ever style or phrase we use to describe them!!
My problem is I like almost all cars,I don't care what you label them as.I can't help it.The poor dude was asking a question and maybe trying to fit in being new.Elitist attitude wont get you very far.Cut the dude a little slack
Nope...he doesn't need slack. He just needs an education. LoL Honest to God "Rat Rods" are total crap to anyone who eats, sleeps and builds real Hot Rods. Paint (or lack of etc) and all that has nothing to do with it! Calling a Hot Rod a "Rat Rod" just shows your new to the hobby and got your education from the Saturday TV shows!!! It's unfortunate how badly those shows miss the mark in an attempt to keep sponsors happy. I'd lay a $10.00 bill down that wiggum is attempting to actually build a traditional Hot Rod and just used a term that he thought was cool...well, IS cool...but to the people who really DON'T know what they're talking about! Welcome aboard wiggum and don't take the little slaps you might get as a putdown. I'm sure you'll fit in...and lets see what your building!!!
If the Merc WB is longer, I'd guess the steering arm geometry would be slightly different than the Ford (Ackerman).
I doubt it. Not that critical to get it 100% EXACT. The concern is running the tierod out front by reversing the spindles. That just completely messes up the Ackerman and there isn't enough room to bend the arms out to make it correct.
Need help, front axle identification? Here is an axle i had the HAMBer's id. I don't know if the Lincoln and Mercs are the same. Click the link and look.
Actually lots of people give a shit. That's why it's called a traditional hot rod and custom site. Go to ruff rodders or oldskool rodz if you want rat rods.
