every chance i get i have been spot welding the trunk floors in its allot of work i figured out that since i used think angle iron its hard to spot weld the sheet metal as the two melt at different temperatures so you have to hit it wit a hotter setting to get a good weld at the angle iron but kinda melt the metal so its trickey i am tring to get someone i know who welds at the shop to stop by and give me better ideas but so far il keep plugging away
once the trunks done il slap some rockers and work on the front end

Nice to see u r back. Missed our regular updates and the speed at which you are getting so much work done in a short period of time. BTW don't weld your pitman arm! LOL - just kidding; just got done with that other thread and boy some folks just don't belong on a hot rod forum at all.

i did some patch panels in the trunk and rear seat pan will get pictures up when i find the camera im almost done in the trunk area from the inside then i will make the rocker skins and tackle the front end and radiator issue i have decided to eliminate the smog pump and stuff cause its seems to be in the way but im jumping the gun so i have to be patient and wait its turn i hope everyone is doing good i miss our frequent chats i have been working so far but i think il get layed off again soon so il have more free time i guess :(
once this is all done i want to rotisserie the body and weld from the outside and then its cruising time

Hey Bro glad u r back but sorry to hear that you might be given an undesired vacation. :(

Last week I happened to be in your neck of the woods and I swung by just in case you were around. Did not stop as you obviously were not home but I did see the car and it is looking good!

Joel, I'd love to see more progress, but family and shelter come before cool transportation! Keep earning while the work is there for you, and come back with fresh batteries and better ideas!

I just read through this post and I feel like a lazy ass cry baby when I think of the work that I'm doing on my projects (or lack ther of). My hat's off to you Joel. Great work man and you have huge stones and a hell of a work ethic for taking on a project that most would not and if they did, would have petered out on long ago. Looking forward to seeing more.

thanks guys i am working some days during the week so far and i have been working on the car im working on getting the photos out of my camera that doesn't want to share right now so far i have finished welding the rear trunk area it came out pretty dam good except for one part i could sandwich the metal together the way i wanted but it will get covered with carpet the only thing i can't figure out is do i a: paint with the rust-x paint first then put the seam sealer glue stuff or reverse seam sealer then paint ?

    here's the pic's
i welded an angle iron across the floor riding the edge of the old floor structure zip screws held it in place so i could weld it in this helped stiffen the floor as it was rusted at the ends [IMG]

next i reused the floor section i had cut out of the donor car this is the floor pan under the rear seat i just cleaned it up and smoothed out the edges
    [IMG]
next i started welding in the patch panels making it one structure again
this part is fun when you shape the metal and it starts to stiffen up

the other side had more rot so i had to hit it hard
    [IMG]
the trunk area all patched up before i painted it

this area gave me the most trouble but im over that hill now
    [IMG]

i welded another angle under there and hit the edge of the metal with a big hammer since i don't have a metal brake to bend its caveman style

i have to finish two corners on each side under the fender area but i think i will wait till i lift the body off the chassis again im having a hard time figuring how im going to weld the underside i donot have a rotisserie but plan on making it (still scratching head on this idea) but il getter done
I have to save up some money and get this tow hitch at walmart im going to weld in place it will give me a place to weld the rear corner body mounts, stiffin the rear chassis with extra support across, protect my gas tank and allow me to tow stuff like my quad
the pics are after seam sealing and a recoat of black rustoleum ( overkill)

Nice progress! Think about putting on your respirator and getting rid of that headliner. Looks like mice were living inside. Their droppings can carry some nasties, potentially quite serious actually, so you want to get rid of any droppings up there. If you breathe in or otherwise ingest airborns rodent fecal matter, could be bad news. Get rid of that headliner, hose down the inside of the car, just don't blow it around or simply move the crap from here to there.
