Hey guys does any one know if the rear end out of a 47 pontiac with a straight eight is the same as the 50s olds/pontiac rears ? I was told 37 thru 56 olds/pontiac rears are the same is this true ? it looks smaller than some of the olds/pontiac rears I have seen pictured here Thanks

I believe 49-56 are the same, but not the same as 57-64 9.3" rears.
48 and back might be the same to 56, I'm just not sure on those.
    Good Luck

Pontiac 39 to 56 Olds 39 to 52. Pontiac built the rear ends for Olds. Gears from 3.07 to 4.56.

The only real break off is that 37-47 has ball bearing type pinion bearings, 47-56 has roller bearings...The Pontiac MPC show doesn't show the exact break off but list 47 with both, maybe early and late builds?

I have a restorer friend with an early 1950ish Pontiac centre in his 46 Olds housing, direct bolt up. I doubt the larger 9" centre would fit in the early housing
