I just pulled this one home last week.

 

Honestly, there is a magic combination of stance and chop with these trucks. They look great when they are low and mildly chopped. The flat silver one and the bare metal truck both give me wood...

 

Here's my '48. My Grandfather bought it new from my Great Uncle's Chevy dealership (Chepachet Sales & Service, Chepachet, RI). Picture of the dealership too.

Can you run a drop axle and mono-leafs on these trucks?

I've heard that was either a no-no or a-ok depending on who you talked to.

Have any of these trucks been lowered without going independant?

 

They can be lowered. I've seen monoleaf style with dropped axles but I've heard opposition to mono from Eaton Springs and the argument was logical enough to make sense.

 

I really like Russ Meeks truck.

 

Heres my grandpas 50 and his 55.. Both have there custom touches. The 50 has a nova sub-frame in the front, custom made rool pan in the rear, nova gauges, 305/350 combo. The paint is from about 92, and its white with a red pural. The 55 is sitting on a 64 chevy truck frame. El camino bumper, 327/350 combo, and its white with a blue pural, it was finished 2 years ago, and just sits in the garage only has 5 miles on it. another one they chopped the top and left the center back glass full size to match the corner windows. that are available 3-4 inches short

 

Here's mine before and during the 4"to 4 1/2" angle chop with leaned back posts. Still in progress....

 

heres a blurry pic of mine at the races, and one from the side. gonna get around to painting it someday.

Lets see if you can spot the differences between these two. First
new truck my dad ever bought. Had a warranty disclaimer because
of his spec of being able to pull a loaded trailer @75 mph on a level
road. Guessing this must have been pretty early for the diesel.
He was pissed that his driver disappeared for two days in
Chicago on a bender with the sign painter/striper. The Mack in the
background still survives today. Used oil on the ground to hold down
the dust. My dad,gone 10 yrs. ago today. Miss him a lot...
These pics were converted from 35mm slides and then didn't scan the
best so I'll see if I can help them this evening.

 

Until I read your description, I actually thought that top picture was taken in the present day. Old color slides are amazing.

Too bad you still haven't got one, you could do something like I saw last August: A 1965 White cabover tractor-trailer setup converted into an RV.

Runs 6-71 BDS 350, twin 600 Elderbrocks, 350 TH Art-Carr box, Jaguar front clip, 10 bolt Chevy rear, 20s and 18 AR TT/2 Wheels.

Those look great. I really like the deluxe cab and chrome grill. I vaguely remember the company name and logo from the early '70s in Toledo when a family friend ran on like it or of the same company. He also had a step van that dark blue/black and orange. Were they kind of like an early UPS? It was a long time ago and I was just a kid.

 

Danimal, thats one of the weird things. Both cabs are 6 window
(4 on the back panel) just one is a lot flatter than the other. No
idea on the company,just someone he leased on to as far as I
know. These pics are early to mid 50's and I wasn't born till 60.
I do remember having paint around that color later on that was
called Omaha Orange. Cool lettering/striping one the one,wish
I could get it to show up better here.

 

I see it now. That really is a flat cab. The front view shows the 'corner' windows better in the flat one. Have you posted these over at Stovebolt.com? They'd love these in the gallery there.

Here's mine. But I also have a question. Anyone know who the best place to get a 4" dropped axle for this '54. It's my daily driver so I can't just take it out, send it off to someone, and put it back in after a few weeks of not having a vehicle.

 

^^^ whats up with your running boards? looks like they are off of one of the bigger trucks. look good though. im not even really a big fan of running boards, but those are cool and different.
