  1. my 54 GMC is chopped 4 inches, sectioned 5 1/2 inches, channeled 5 1/2 inches cab stretched 10 1/2 inches, still waiting till I get it bolted back together before I post any more photos. I still consider it a mild custom and my work truck

    Thanks David.

The HAMB's xadamx built/styled the truck, and I've just been "shaking it down" for the last year. LOL Nothing seems to phase it. It's basically a stocker (old USAF truck) that's been lowered with blocks and leaves removed. It's still running 6-lugs, torque-tube, and floor starter. Adam worked over the sheetmetal, smoothed and peaked the hood, shaved the handles, and then painted it a flattened metallic. The interior is still in progress, but Adam had the seat covered in a nice red/white tuck-n-roll, and flaked the hell out of the dash. I've been slack about making any headway on it, but that's because it's such a blast to drive as-is.

i have a truck that's pretty much like that, kind of a back burner project but most of the fab work is done. i used a 4x4 blazer frame, and yes, you can get it quite low even on a 4x4 frame! with my torsion bar adjusting bolts removed, there is about 3 inches under the rear of the front fenders, running something like 215/75r15 tires all around. if you do the torsion bar adjuster mods for the 3" drop it will be as low as any of them on 2x4 frames. if you're gonna go low like i did, you'll have to run the positive offset 4x4 rims up front to clear the fenders, so you're going to be pretty much limited to full wheelcovers for a "trad" look. oddly enough, you have to run the positive offset wheels up front, and negative offset in back to fill the fenders, i'm running 2wd pickup 15" wheels in back with 2" spacers.

i cleaned the garage a bit this week, i'll see if i can get a pic or two.

Here's mine, slated for a 2 1/2" chop, channeled to the boards, and perhaps a 3" section if I can get over how fuckin cool the hood looks from the front. The plan is to leave the fenders at their designed "Z" hgt. I've seen some sectioned trucks where the rear fenders get lowered to match the fronts and that screws with the gap between the bed rail and rear fender. But from the back these things just look too top heavy IMO. For bling I plan to add a 54 pass grille, signals, and front bumper. Soon I hope:eek: I've had it since 2/05 and family matters and $$ seem to have me at bay lately.

ray, did you use a S-10 chassis or fullsize blazer.

I did not think the 4x4 was that much wider to require neg offset. i could not deal with that, as if I got tired of hubcaps there would be no other nice option..(maybe 15x5.5 americans... .. I would have to stick with a 2wd set up I guess

Clark, if I build a truck, maybe that would be my logo.. Boones Farm.. where the old grapes go..

Well, since NO ONE seemed to think it appropriate I'll post these...there's a couple of others for those looking at sectioned examples and molded boxes. The box shot was from the Honorable Gene Winfield's after one of his classes. I can't remeber who posted it but many thanks for the inspiration.

This is my '48 I bought in about '75 for $150. I build my house in Wyoming with it. Hauled all the sand and gravel for the concrete and all the lumber. It stayed like this making trips to the dump until '89 when I picked up a car magazine and got back into cars/trucks. I had a move to Utat that put it on hold...........

.............but started driving it in '93 like this. Went from Utah to Missouri and back like this. You can see the 3 inch chop and 6 inch section and I had finished the.......

......tilt front end. Over the next few years I drove it everywhere and kept working on it till it looked like this, about '97.....

....One of my favorite pictures of it......Then in '98 I painted it and got the interior done and more or less finished it. Here..........

..........it is today, well not really as that picture was taken a couple years ago. I have about 130,000 miles on it now and about 40,000 miles towing my teardrop trailer and it needs to be re-done, but that is going to have to wait until I get my lakester finished for B'ville.

There are a few construction pictures (
    HERE
    ).

1FATGMC, thats looks like one happy truck :D...

that looks pretty good sectioned. i don't think i'd do that to my own cause i'm 6'1" and i want to drive it all the time and after i chopped it about 5" i think it'd be getting a little scarce on room inside already.

the B-ville pic is cool but i realy like the oldest pic of it when it was a work truck. thats a cool lookin pic. sounds like she's a keeper ;)

Thanks. I'm 6-1 and there is plenty of headroom in the truck and leg room. The trick is I lowered the floor 6 inches. If you look at the frame shots in the underconstruction you can see where the frame is lowered 6 inches under the cab. It Z's up behind the cab. At first I put the subframe on the stock frame, but like you mentioned there was not enough room in the truck. So then I added 2X4 box tubing below the frame where the cab is and gusseted that all in. When it was in I cut out the orginal frame pieces in that area. The stock frame is 6 inches deep, so now the top of the new frame is 6 inches lower. I still have good ground clearance and never have a problem with the frame hitting the ground and everthing (exh. etc.) is up higher than the bottom of the frame rails.

The other thing I did was shorten the frame 16 inches as it was a long wheelbase truck. That is still 8 inches shorter than a stock wheelbase truck. I made all the crossmembers also and boxed the remaining sections of the original frame rails behind the cab.

    c ya, Sum

it was an S-10 blazer. and actually, it's kind of in between as far as width, the 4x4 wheels are pretty far in the fenders, but a "standard" offset will rub, but that's with a relatively wide wheel, if you went with some stock appearing skinny steelies you could probably get away with it, or else radius the wheel openings a bit, i wanted to avoid that, being i have two other low cars that i had to do that too! this truck is gonna be running it's original patina, so i didn't want the scars on the fenders, the top chop scars are bad enough!;) the 15 x 5.5 americans would probaby fit, but the thing to keep in mind is with the AWD or 4wd you'll have to keep the same size tires all around unless you get real creative with tire sizes and diff ratios, like they did on the quadradeuce.

Anyone have any pics of 4 doors? I've seen a few, but they were always 80's shaved into a jellybean looking junk. The wife really wants a 48-54, but needs to haul the kids around.

    1fatgmc...

    THANK YOU

You dont know it, but your truck greatly inspired me to section my 52 chevy pickup. I saw your truck at bonneville a couple years ago(04?), and that sealed the fate of my truck.

That's gorgeous! Is it all stock, or does it just look that way?

James, I'd like to see a stock-style crewcab. I wouldn't be at all suprised if the railroads didn't have a few, but I've never seen one.
