I've got a question about removing the stock bench seats. I seem to recall a discussion on the HAMB about removing the wraparound floor brace which the seat frame sits on top of in these trucks. I know some people bolt newer bench seats or buckets directly to the floor. I'm looking to put in a late-model bench seat and I'm not sure whether to use the floor brace or cut it out. I thought I remembered someone talking about the "beer can" or "tin can" effect if you remove that brace. Naturally, I can't locate the previous thread.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Do you have to reinforce the cab floor if you remove the bracing?

Take a look under the area you're talking about. Nothin there. If you keep the new mounts near the edges on each side you'll probably be OK. There's a body brace in that area. Not too hard to plan it out. Simple truck. And yeah, I got one.
