Does anyone know or can point me in the right direction? I have a 48 Chevy Stylemaster Town Sedan with the stock braking system. I can't find the spec for the minimum thickness for the stock brake drums. I want to get them turned but the shop won't do it without knowing the spec. It's not stamped anywhere on the drums and they can't find it anywhere either. Help? Thanks.
The factory shop manual doesn't show it. Since they're 11'' brakes, 11'' plus .060 max would be safe.
Have they been turned before? If you look carefully you can also see a bevel on the edge and/or if there's any meat left. Anybody turning drums should know the spec anyway.
Thank you!! I'll take some measurements when I'm playing in the garage tomorrow and see if I'm close. I can't tell if they've been turned before, but I believe them to be originals, so I'm going to think the have.
like any other brake drum, 11.000" is the original diameter, you can turn it .060" over maximum. And use it to .090" maximum (from wear).
