I have a friend always looking out for pre-war Mopar stuff for me, he got me in touch with the owner of a local salvage yard who had these two Chryslers sitting in his yard. He just wanted them to go to someone who would do something with them so I basically got them for s**** price. One is a '48 that is in very nice shape. The license plate that is in the trunk says 1960. There is no motor and the transmission is in the trunk. The other car is a '47, the body is all beat to hell and the frame is cracked in the front but it has a Spitfire 6 and a Fluid Drive automatic as well as pretty much all the pieces that are missing on the '48. These old Idaho cars are always solid since most were parked before salt was used on the roads.

Love your comment about the yard. Looks like rust doesn't live where you do.

  4. Yes, Idaho solid. Made me think of Tex Smith.

  5. Yes, Tex smith had a 48 Chrysler sedan, too.

Putting one of those in a woody convertible version together at work. Neat car, and fluid drive is fun to learn how to drive.
