48 dodge fluid drive trans problem

    ive got a 1948 dodge coupe with a fluid drive trans. its makin a weird noise. like metalic scraping when the clutch is out coasting down hill.does any one know whats up with it?

    Check your u-joints............I think you have the "pot" type, also called "cross and trunnion", I believe, and I seem to recall such a noise from 'back in the day'.

    I, of course, may be way off base here...........but checking it out can't hurt

    Ive heard of the bendix issue before... Id check the ujoints also if you get a chance... remember about every 1k miles you have to grease almost everything... Id check your trans gear fluid level and if you get a chance and feeling frisky change the fluid drive fluid.. makes a ton of difference...
