48 flat head trans help needed

    i have a 48 flathead car motor with trans the tran was a closed driveshaft i need to make it a open shaft is there a kit or something need help:cool:

    Depends ? Is it a top shift or side shift??
    The 49 truck transmission (top shift) is open driveline. Go for 3-400 usually in good shape.

    What are you planning on running for a rear? The '49/'50 car trans is open drive but has the longer tail shaft so I don't know how easily it would go into the 48 car. If I were doing it though, I would consider the using the '48 trans and picking up a '42-'50 light duty truck main output shaft to fit your gears and the truck rear bearing retainer. I think they should work to convert this trans as well as the older torque tube transmissions.

    I think Flat-o-Products has a kit to convert your trans & rear to open drive, so give Gene a call.
